Abril Portillo Ruiz (2002), visual arts student at Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez. As the first in her family to be born in Juárez, she grew up surrounded by the misunderstanding of her environment and the fear of border violence, which led to isolation. Introspection emerged as a way of creating her own space and, over time, as a key element of her artistic practice.
She explores the boundaries between the autonomy of the art pieces and the artist's intentions, using ephemeral materials and alterations in the technical processes. Her work addresses topics such as existentialism, time, memory, fear, and animal nature. Currently, she is developing an artistic research into the manifestations of absence using ice.
